WASHINGTON — Egypt’s head coach Hossam Hassan expressed his absolute delight ahead of leading the Pharaohs into the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup, asserting that Egypt’s presence in this historic edition is thoroughly deserved.
Speaking to FIFA’s official website, Hassan reflected on his personal milestone, having previously represented Egypt on the world stage as a player at Italia ’90, the 14th FIFA World Cup, hosted by Italy.
“It is a massive honour to return to this grand stage in 2026 as the head coach,” Hassan said, commending his team as “an exceptionally strong group of players who dream of bringing immense joy to Egyptian and Arab fans alike.”
Egypt has been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium national football team, Iran national football team and New Zealand national football team.
Hassan stressed that his primary focus remains on meticulous preparation, tactical harmony, and analysing opponents rather than making bold pre-tournament declarations.
He said his ultimate goal is to create a healthy environment that inspires competitive excellence ahead of upcoming challenges.
“The Egyptian national team is fully ready for the World Cup,” Hassan said, adding,
“We promise our fans that we will give absolutely everything we have to bring them happiness and to ensure they remain forever proud of us.”
Hassan’s statements follow Egypt’s hard-fought 2-1 friendly defeat against Brazil on Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio.
Despite the narrow loss, where Mostafa Ziko temporarily equalised for the Pharaohs, the performance provided crucial competitive sharpness for Hassan’s men as they finalise their preparations to launch their Group G campaign.
Egypt will kick off their World Cup journey against Belgium on June 15 before taking on New Zealand on June 22.
The Pharaohs will conclude their group-stage fixtures with a match against Iran on June 27.
