Egypt has condemned the attack on a position of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the death of a Serbian peacekeeper and injuries to two others from Spain and El Salvador.
In a statement, Egypt reaffirmed its complete rejection of any attacks targeting UN peacekeeping forces and stressed the need to ensure the safety and security of their personnel so they can carry out their duties in line with their UN mandate.
Egypt said protecting peacekeepers is essential to supporting security and stability in Lebanon and enabling UNIFIL to continue its role in maintaining peace along the country’s southern border.
The statement also expressed Cairo’s sincere condolences to the government and people of Serbia over the death of the Serbian soldier and wished a speedy recovery to the injured personnel.
