Egypt Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati met on Tuesday, with representatives of the leading South Korean newspapers and international news agencies during his current visit to Seoul.
The event was part of Egypt’s efforts to explain the key principles of its foreign policy on regional and international issues and to highlight its role in promoting security and stability in the Middle East.
During the meeting, Abdel-Aati reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts to support security and stability across the region, drawing on its pivotal role and regional responsibilities, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
He also stressed Egypt’s commitment to continue co-operation with regional and international partners in order to contain crises and resolve conflicts through peaceful means, thereby contributing to stability and supporting the aspirations of the region’s peoples for development and prosperity.
The session featured an extensive interactive discussion between the chief diplomat and representatives of Korean and international media outlets on a range of regional and international issues.
The discussions focused on developments in the Middle East, the latest progress in negotiations between the US and Iran, and Egypt’s efforts, in co-ordination with regional and international partners, to promote de-escalation and reach an agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties.
They also covered developments pertaining to the Palestinian cause, Sudan, Lebanon, the the Horn of Africa, and the situation in the Red Sea, with Abdel-Aati outlining the key principles guiding Egypt’s position on these issues.
Meanwhile, Abdel-Aati reviewed Egyptian-South Korean relations, praising the steady progress achieved under the comprehensive co-operative partnership between the two countries.
He also highlighted the shared commitment to strengthening economic, trade, and investment co-operation and attracting more South Korean investment to the Egyptian market.
Abdel-Aati outlined the point of strength and opportunities offered by the Egyptian economy, pointing to the economic and structural reforms implemented in recent years and the investment-friendly environment they have helped create.
Moreover, he voiced Egypt’s hopes to elevate economic co-operation with South Korea to new levels in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both friendly nations.
