Egypt’s Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction and Abuse (FDCTA) has carried out a series of awareness programmes throughout the Eid Al-Adha holiday in co-operation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The step targets young people, children and families through its Prevention Clubs at youth centres nationwide.
As part of the initiative, the FDCTA has organised a range of awareness activities in Bir Al-Abd and Arish in North Sinai Governorate to educate families on the early detection of substance abuse and raise awareness among young people and children about the dangers of smoking and drug addiction.
The programmes included educational sessions highlighting the harmful effects of narcotics and correcting common misconceptions.
The fund encouraged individuals suffering from addiction to seek free treatment through its network of 35 treatment and rehabilitation centres operating nationwide.
The initiative seeks to equip young people with the knowledge, life skills and positive values needed to protect themselves and their communities from behavioural and health risks, particularly substance abuse and addiction.
In addition, the programme helps families identify early signs of substance abuse and raises awareness of treatment options available through the fund’s nationwide hotline services.
