The foreign ministers of 14 countries, mostly Arab and Islamic, have strongly condemned the “illegal and unacceptable” move by the so-called “Somaliland” region to open a purported “embassy” in occupied Jerusalem.

The step “constitutes a blatant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, as well as a direct infringement on the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem,” according to a joint statement issued on Sunday, by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Türkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen, and Lebanon.

They reaffirmed their categorical rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at imposing an illegal reality in occupied Jerusalem or granting legitimacy to entities and arrangements that contravene international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

They also  reiterated that East Jerusalem remains occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, emphasising that all measures intended to alter its legal, historical, or demographic status are null and void and carry no legal effect under international law.

The ministers also underscored their full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, while firmly rejecting any unilateral actions that undermine the unity of Somali territory or infringe upon the sovereignty of the Somali state.

The chief diplomats reasserted their support for efforts aimed at preserving the historical and legal status of Jerusalem in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
