Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Tuesday directed the relevant authorities to ensure regular and accurate follow-up on maintenance works on the 6th of October Bridge and local road networks across Egypt’s governorates.

He also stressed the importance of deploying modern technologies and all necessary resources to preserve the efficiency of key transport corridors and facilitate the movement of citizens and goods nationwide.

The premier convened a meeting at the government headquarters in the New Capital to review progress on a number of road sector projects.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom, and senior officials from both ministries.

Minister El-Wazir reviewed the implementation status of the Aswan–Berenice dual carriageway project, a 327-kilometre strategic route linking Upper Egypt with the Red Sea coast. The project is part of the state’s development corridor strategy aimed at improving connectivity between the Nile Valley, border crossings and Red Sea ports.

The minister also outlined ongoing road and bridge maintenance plans across the country, including projects carried out by the General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport (GARBLT) in various governorates, in addition to efforts to upgrade local road networks connecting cities and villages.

He further presented updates on the comprehensive maintenance and development plan for the 6th of October Bridge, which is being fully supervised by GARBLT, an affiliate of the Ministry of Transport. He noted that the plan relies on advanced engineering solutions and modern technologies.

El-Wazir said the urgent phase of the plan includes repairing damaged sections and replacing expansion joints using modern materials and standards to ensure structural safety and smoother traffic flow.

Maintenance work is being carried out in according to phased schedules, with partial closures and traffic diversions coordinated with the Interior Ministry’s traffic authorities in order to minimise congestion and maintain smooth mobility during the works.
