CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has said that he is looking forward to consultations with the US side on issues of climate change as part of partnership between Egypt and the United States, in preparation for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27), which will be held in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh in November.

The president’s statements came during a meeting Monday with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Environment Yasmin Fuoad and US Ambassador in Cairo Jonathan Cohen.

Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said the president welcomed the US envoy’s visit and the convocation of the first meeting of the Egyptian-American working group on climate change as one of the important results of the latest strategic dialogue between Egypt and the United States.

The president expressed hope for the continuation of consultations with the American side on the climate change issues and the COP27 summit.

Sisi said that Egypt will adopt a comprehensive and neutral approach during its presidency of COP27 summit and will take into consideration priorities and stances of all parties to ensure the success of the gathering and its culmination in positive results supporting efforts to reduce gas emissions and adapt to the negative impacts of the climate change with drumming up support for developing countries deal with the climate change problems.

For his part, the US envoy expressed happiness at meeting President Sisi, pointing out that his country puts its confidence in Egypt’s presidency of the conference to forward efforts aiming at facing climate change problems.

The US envoy hailed international support for the president’s efforts towards climate change and green transformation, citing the president’s participation in the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow and similar international gatherings dealing with the climate change.

The spokesman added that the Sisi-Kerry meeting tackled means to cement cooperation between the friendly countries through participation of US companies and institutions in Egypt’s efforts to boost green energy transformation topped by green hydrogen, solar and wind energy as well as projects aimed at reducing carbon in the transportation means.
