Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Aaty met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside foreign ministers of BRICS member states and partner countries in New Delhi on Thursday.

Minister Abdel Aaty conveyed the greetings ofPresident Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Prime Minister Modi, expressing pride in the growing bilateral ties between Egypt and India, which were elevated to a strategic partnership. He praised the launch of the first round of the Egypt–India Strategic Dialogue in 2025, and stressed the importance of holding it regularly to deepen cooperation, particularly in economic, trade, and investment fields.

The minister said that Egypt aims to expand trade with India to $12 billion within five years, citing recent economic reforms—including monetary policy adjustments and a flexible exchange rate—that improved Egypt’s credit rating and investment climate. He also underscored Egypt’s role in global trade through advanced infrastructure and the strategic position of Suez Canal.

Regional developments were also discussed, with Minister Abdel Aaty emphasising Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and the need for diplomatic solutions. On Palestine, he called for completing the second phase of the U.S. President’s plan, ensuring unrestricted access of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and preparing for reconstruction.

Prime Minister Modi, in turn, praised Egypt’s leadership and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Cairo, commending Egypt’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
