Chairman of Suez Canal Authority Vice Admiral Osama Rabie met on Wednesday with French Ambassador to Cairo Éric Chevallier to discuss prospects for joint cooperation.
The meeting, which was attended the French Defence Attaché Colonel Laurent Seigne, took place at the Suez Canal Yacht Marina in Ismailia.
The discussions were held on the sidelines of following up the transit of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle through the canal as part of the northbound convoy, as well as the provision of crew-change services at the Suez Canal Yacht Marina.
Rabie affirmed that Suez Canal continues to provide navigation and logistics services around the clock, meeting client needs through the introduction of new service packages.
These include crew-change services, maritime rescue, ship maintenance and repair, marine waste removal, and maritime ambulance services.
He added that the canal has continued its development and modernisation efforts despite regional challenges, highlighting the successful completion of the southern sector development project. The project enhanced the safety of navigation throught widening the canal by 40 metres between kilometer 132 and 162, and extending dual-lane sections by 10 kilometers in the Small Bitter Lakes area.
For his part, the French ambassador underscored the strategic importance of the Suez Canal for sustaining global supply chains and expressed hope for improved regional security conditions and a return of traffic to normal levels.
