Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid affirmed that Egypt is working to turn the outcomes of its co-operation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) into implementable policies, contributing to boosting the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy and improving the efficiency of the investment and foreign trade environment.

This affirmation was made during an expanded meeting on Tuesday with a UNIDO delegation, to review means to boost co-operation programmmes through 2027.

The minister noted that Egypt currently hosts UNIDO’s largest portfolio of projects globally, with 23 projects, reflecting the confidence of international institutions in the Egyptian economy.

He explained that the state is focusing on enhancing export access to European Union markets through compliance with modern environmental and digital standards.

He added that the implementation of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) system represents a pivotal step to ensure the competitiveness of Egyptian exports, particularly amid increasing EU requirements related to green transition and digitalisation.

Farid stressed that developing quality infrastructure, enabling green industry, and modernising investment policies are key pillars for attracting major investments and supporting Egyptian exports.

He also highlighted the importance of partnership with UNIDO in governance, value chain development, smart cities, and industrial innovation.

UNIDO’s Vice President in Egypt, Gehan Bayoumi, affirmed that co-operation between Egypt and the organisation aims to support a competitive export-oriented industrial economy, enhance the integration of small and medium-sized enterprises into global value chains, and improve their production and export capacities.

UNIDO officials also reviewed efforts under the Trade, Industry, and Market Access Support Project, funded by the European Union, which focuses on developing investment policies, improving quality systems efficiency, and accelerating digital transformation to enhance Egypt’s global competitiveness.
