President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on Thursday, laid wreaths at the Armed Forces Martyrs’ Memorial and the tomb of late President Sadat, marking the 44th anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day.
President Sisi was received upon arrival at the memorial site by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defence and Military Production, Lieutenant General Ashraf Zaher, and Chief-of-Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa.
The guard of honour performed the military salute arms, and the national anthem was played, said Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy.
The president then laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where the “Martyr’s Salute” was performed, before proceeding to the tomb of President Sadat to lay a wreath.
The ceremony was attended by senior military commanders, as well as Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Speaker of the House of Representatives Hisham Badawy, Senate Speaker Essam Eddin Farid, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed El-Tayeb, Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfik, Minister of State for Military Production Salah Suleiman, and Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber.
