Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati held phone talks on Wednesday with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh, and Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, and the High Representative for Gaza Nikolay Mladenov to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian issue and the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf, Minister Abdel Aati stressed during the calls that the current escalation in the region should not distract attention from the need to complete all steps of the second phase of the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. This includes deploying an international stabilisation force, ensuring unfettered delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, and starting early recovery and reconstruction programmes.
The spokesman added that the talks also addressed the serious developments in the West Bank, including the ongoing Israeli violations and the increased military operations. He said several Palestinian cities and camps are facing repeated attacks, expansion of settlements, and attacks by settlers on religious sites. These actions raise tensions and weaken chances for calm and thereturn to political negotiations.
