Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has noted that the government is placing great importance on the implementation of the “Ras El Hekma” and “Shams El Hekma” projects on the Northwest Coast, given their pivotal role in driving comprehensive development, strengthening Egypt’s position on the Mediterranean tourism map, and creating broad employment opportunities for young people across multiple sectors.

This came during a meeting he chaired on Wednesday to follow up on the implementation status of the two projects.

Minister of Transport Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Dr Hani Sweilem, Minister of Local Development and Environment Dr Manal Awad, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Eng Randa El Menshawy, Governor of Matrouh Major General Dr Mohamed El Zamalout, Deputy Minister of Housing for Urban Communities Dr Walid Abbas, Director of Security for Matrouh Major General Hatem Haddad, Assistant Head of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces Major General Abdel Aziz El Feky, along with officials from the relevant ministries and agencies were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the prime minister emphasised his continued follow-up of all implementation phases of the project, stressing the government’s commitment to overcoming any procedural or administrative challenges to ensure execution in line with the highest international standards.

He also reviewed the progress of compensation payments for eligible residents within the project area, as well as procedures for the gradual handover of land to the developer to facilitate construction and development works, said the Cabinet Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Homosani.

He added that the meeting reviewed land handover procedures, noting that 13,800 feddans have already been delivered, while procedures for a further 5,400 feddans are nearing completion.

Preparations are also underway for the handover of an additional 20,800 feddans, alongside ongoing completion of compensation payments for land, buildings, and cultivated areas.

He added that the meeting also reviewed progress in the Ras El Hekma Development Company’s investment zone, where construction of a hotel is nearing completion ahead of its scheduled opening this summer.

Progress was also reviewed in villa construction, perimeter walls and gates, and the connection of essential utilities to the project site.

With regard to “Shams El Hekma,” the meeting followed up on urgent-phase works, including alternative housing in designated sectors covering 250 feddans in the first sector, 300 feddans in the second, and 200 feddans in the third, in addition to other areas.

The spokesman further noted the completion of urgent electrical works and the activation of electricity and street lighting across the area.

The experimental school in Shams El Hekma has also been completed and commenced operations during the current academic year 2026.

Progress was also reviewed on infrastructure works in the southern alternative area for tribes south of the high-speed rail line, which includes residential, recreational, tourism, logistical, investment, and service zones.
