Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, reaffirmed the strength of strategic ties between Egypt and Eritrea, highlighting a long history of close cooperation and geographic and political alignment.

He stressed Egypt’s commitment to expanding economic cooperation, particularly in industry and joint investment, in ways that serve the interests of both countries.

His remarks came during a meeting with Hagos Gebrehiwet, Economic Advisor to the Eritrean President, and Eritrea’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Nasr El-Din Saleh, to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the coming phase.

Hashem noted that Egypt aims to deepen collaboration by leveraging Eritrea’s strategic location and rich natural resources alongside Egyptian industrial expertise to achieve industrial integration. Priority sectors include agro-industries, mining, fisheries, renewable energy—particularly solar power—and industrial infrastructure development.

He also proposed establishing a joint Egypt–Eritrea business council to boost private sector engagement and support agreed projects.

The minister added that Egypt is ready to assist Eritrea in developing industrial strategies, conducting feasibility studies, and building local capacities through training centers and technical support, while enhancing institutional and quality systems.

For his part, Gebrehiwet emphasized Eritrea’s keenness to strengthen ties with Egypt as a key regional partner.

He  outlined efforts to boost trade, overcome logistical and banking challenges, and attract investment by leveraging both countries’ comparative advantages.
