Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat affirmed that citizens are key partners in the success of the government’s electricity consumption rationalisation plan, underscoring the ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance energy efficiency and reduce waste across all sectors.

Speaking during a meeting with heads of electricity distribution companies on Saturday, the minister stressed the importance of improving operational efficiency, adhering to quality standards, lowering fault rates, and ensuring the stability and sustainability of electricity supply.

Esmat noted that electricity distribution companies represent the central link between the power sector and consumers, placing them at the forefront of implementing the state’s strategy to rationalise consumption and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

He highlighted tangible outcomes achieved during the first week of implementing government measures, which resulted in savings of about 18,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and around 3.5 million cubic metres of fuel.

He added that remote working measures alone contributed to savings of 4,700 megawatt-hours and approximately 980,000 cubic metres of fuel.

Esmat also outlined the ministry’s broader action plan and the national energy strategy, focusing on diversifying electricity generation sources, expanding reliance on renewable energy, reducing fuel consumption, and ensuring the stability of power supply, alongside improving overall service quality.
