Egypt has strongly condemned the storming of the Kuwaiti Consulate in the Iraqi city of Basra, stressing its firm rejection of all acts of vandalism and attacks targeting diplomatic missions.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Egypt underscored the imperative of protecting these institutions in accordance with international law and the Vienna Conventions.

Egypt described the incident involving the storming and vandalism of the Kuwaiti consulate as a flagrant violation of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular missions, reiterating its categorical rejection of such actions, which contravene international law.

The statement emphasised the obligation to protect and secure diplomatic and consular premises, affirming that targeting such facilities constitutes a clear breach of international legal provisions.

Egypt also condemned attacks targeting energy and infrastructure facilities in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, as well as telecommunications facilities in the UAE, in addition to civilian targets in Qatar and Bahrain, describing these acts as flagrant violations of the sovereignty of sisterly states.

The statement reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with, and support of, the sovereignty, security, and stability of Gulf countries.

It also expressed hope that the announcement by US President Donald Trump to suspend military operations for two weeks would represent an opportunity to achieve a lasting cessation of unjustified attacks on Gulf states.

Egypt stressed that any future agreement to end the conflict must take into account security concerns, respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability of states, in line with the principles of international law and good neighbourliness.
