Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati met with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu, during his official visit to Moscow.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said Minister Abdel-Aati expressed appreciation for the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia. He highlighted the recent progress in bilateral relations across multiple fields and emphasized the importance of continued joint efforts to strengthen cooperation.
Abdel-Aati praised the outcomes of Shoigu’s visit to Cairo in November 2025 and consultations with Egypt’s National Security Advisor, Ambassador Faiza Abu El-Naga. He stressed the importance of deepening cooperation to support the two countries’ national security priorities and contribute to regional and international peace and stability.
The meeting addressed several regional issues, including ongoing escalations in the region. Abdel-Aati outlined Egypt’s intensive diplomatic efforts to contain tensions, stressing that diplomacy remains the optimal path to prevent further conflict. He also reviewed the results of the recent quadrilateral ministerial meeting in Islamabad and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting regional security and stability.
The discussion covered developments in the Horn of Africa, where Abdel-Aati emphasized support for regional and international efforts to stabilize Somalia and neighboring areas. He underlined that Red Sea governance is the exclusive responsibility of littoral states to ensure its security and stability.
Water security in the Nile basin was also discussed. Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of cooperation under international law to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries and rejected unilateral actions that violate international legal norms in the Eastern Nile.
Finally, the ministers discussed Libya. Abdel-Aati reiterated Egypt’s support for Libya’s unity and stability, emphasizing the need to unify national institutions and achieve a comprehensive political settlement through a Libyan-led process, paving the way for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
