Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk emphasised the need for closer coordination among key economic ministries to ensure market stability, strengthen food security, and support sustainable economic growth.

His remarks came during a trilateral meeting on Wednesday with Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid.

The discussions focused on enhancing joint mechanisms of action in line with the political leadership’s directives to deepen institutional integration.

Farouk stressed the importance of greater alignment across ministries, particularly on food security, supply chain development, and boosting agricultural output to meet domestic market needs.

“Ensuring the sustainable availability of essential commodities at affordable prices requires a fully integrated approach,” he said.

The ministers also reviewed measures to better regulate the trade, distribution, and movement of strategic commodities and agricultural crops, encompassing both imports and exports. Particular attention was given to the role of the Egyptian Mercantile Exchange as a key tool to enhance market transparency and improve price discovery.

Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk highlighted ongoing government initiatives to expand agricultural productivity and enhance crop quality, aiming to achieve self-sufficiency in key strategic commodities. He underscored the importance of close coordination with the Ministry of Supply to ensure efficient crop marketing, reduce post-harvest losses, and secure fair returns for farmers.

Meanwhile, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid noted ongoing efforts to identify new investment opportunities in agriculture and domestic trade, alongside measures to attract capital and strengthen supply chain resilience.
