President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call on Tuesday from Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the two leaders discussed regional and international developments.

The talks focused on the escalating situation in the Middle East, as President Sisi stressed the need for immediate de-escalation, said Presidency Spokesman, Mohamed El-Shennawy.

President Sisi also reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts, in coordination with regional partners, to reduce tensions and safeguard regional security. He also warned of the grave result of the region sliding into chaos.

President Sisi noted that Russia, given its global influence, can play a key role in pushing towards ending the war.

He also reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the security and sovereignty of Arab states, and stressed that their stability is integral to Egypt’s national security, the spokesman added.

The two leaders also discussed ways to restore regional stability, particularly in light of the economic repercussions of the ongoing conflict. President Putin, for his part, praised Egypt’s role in promoting regional security and expressed hope for containing the current escalation.

The call further addressed developments in the occupied Palestinian territories. In this respect, President Sisi underscored Egypt’s priority to sustain the ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip, and launch reconstruction efforts.

The Egyptian leader reiterated the need to revive a political process likely to lead to establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as a capital, in line with international legitimacy and the two-state solution.

Sisi and Putin agreed to continue coordination towards finding a comprehensive and just resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Meanwhile, the discussions also touched on the Russia–Ukraine crisis. President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for a political settlement and expressed readiness to contribute to such efforts, an approach which President Putin welcomed, according to Spokesman El-Shennawy..

The call also touched on means of boosting partnership between the two nations across various sectors, including politics, trade, investment, and tourism.

The two leaders emphasised the importance of advancing joint projects, notably the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian industrial estate in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, as well as ongoing cooperation in energy, tourism, and food sectors.
