Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati received a phone call on Thursday from Syrian counterpart Asaad Al‑Shaybani, during which they discussed bilateral ties and escalating regional situation.

The talks focused on ways to strengthen co-operation, especially in economy and trade, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf said.

Abdel-Aati stressed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Syria’s reconstruction. He highlighted the importance of building on the recent visit of an Egyptian economic delegation to Damascus and following up on its outcomes to serve both nations.

The ministers also addressed the serious risks of military escalation in the region. They reviewed Egyptian and regional efforts to contain tensions, especially in relation to recent developments involving Iran.

The call touched on updates pertaining to the Palestinian cause and the situation in Lebanon, as the Egyptian chief diplomat strongly condemned ongoing Israeli violations and the ground incursion in southern Lebanon.

Abdel-Aati rejected what he described as blatant attacks on the sovereignty and security of both Lebanon and Syria. He warned that continued escalation threatens regional peace and stability.

The conversation demonstrated shared concern over regional crises and a desire to deepen cooperation between Egypt and Syria.

The two sides agreed to continue coordination to protect common interests and support regional stability.
