Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati met on Tuesday with the newly appointed head of the National Council for Human Rights Ahmed Ihab Gamal El-Din.

He expressed his keenness to strengthen cooperation with the NCHR in its new formation, which includes respected independent figures.

The minister praised the NCHR’s central role in promoting and protecting human rights in Egypt.

He reviewed national efforts in recent years, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to advance the human rights system.

He stressed the importance of completing the implementation of the current National Human Rights Strategy and starting preparations for a second strategy to further promote human rights culture.

Minister Abdel-Aati also highlighted Egypt’s active engagement during its membership in the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva for the 2026–2028 term.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm commitment to advancing and protecting human rights at both the national and international levels.

He pointed to government initiatives aimed at strengthening economic, social, and cultural rights, with a focus on women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities.

He also referred to the National Dialogue as a platform to integrate diverse views across society, as well as the continued work of the Presidential Pardon Committee.

The minister underscored the importance of consulting NCHR and all stakeholders in preparing the second strategy.

He called on them to submit proposals and recommendations to be included in the new framework.
