Egypt’s Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Drug Abuse launched a new phase of its “You Are Stronger Than Drugs” campaign under the theme “You Are Capable,” alongside a nationwide awareness initiative on the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
The initiative targets youth, children, and families through activities held in public squares and mosque courtyards across several governorates. It aims to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking and drug use, correct misconceptions such as drugs improving focus or relieving stress, and help families identify early signs of substance abuse.
Special focus was placed on children, warning against secondhand smoke and discouraging imitation of smokers or drug users. Activities will continue throughout the Eid holiday period.
The campaign also highlighted the Fund’s treatment services via hotline 16023, which connects users to 35 treatment centres across 21 governorates. Families were encouraged to play a key role in early detection and support during recovery stages.
Events included interactive art shows, storytelling workshops, and distribution of educational materials, balloons, and colouring books carrying anti-drug messages and the hotline number.
