RABAT — The Olympic Stadium in Rabat will host one of the most anticipated fixtures of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals on Friday evening when Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat take on defending champions Pyramids FC of Egypt in the first-leg of their last-eight clash.

The match brings together two ambitious clubs seeking to move a step closer to the semi-finals of Africa’s premier club competition, cafonline.com reported.

For Pyramids FC, the tie represents the beginning of their title defence as the Egyptian side attempt to continue their rise among the continent’s elite clubs.

Meanwhile, FAR Rabat is chasing a return to continental prominence and hope to revive memories of their historic Champions League triumph in 1985.

The meeting is expected to deliver a fiercely contested encounter between two sides with strong continental aspirations and the ambition to progress deeper into the competition.

High stakes in quarter-finals

Both teams understand the significance of gaining an early advantage in the two-legged tie.

Pyramids arrive in Rabat determined to demonstrate why they are the reigning champions, aware that defending the title requires overcoming formidable opposition at every stage of the tournament.

FAR Rabat, however, see the home leg as a crucial opportunity to build momentum before the decisive return fixture in Egypt. The Moroccan club will be counting on their home support to inspire a strong performance and deliver a positive result ahead of the second leg.

With the margins often narrow in knockout football, the ability to manage key moments and capitalise on scoring opportunities could prove decisive.

Tactical battle expected

Both coaching staffs are expected to rely on the experience within their squads in what promises to be a tactically balanced contest.

Pyramids boast a group of players with considerable continental experience who are accustomed to handling the pressure of high-profile matches. Their ability to remain composed in difficult situations has been one of the hallmarks of their recent success in Africa.

FAR Rabat, meanwhile, possess a squad filled with players familiar with the demands of African competition. Their organisation and tactical discipline have been key factors in their progression to the quarter-final stage.

However, both teams will have to adjust their plans due to several absences.

Pyramids will be without influential midfielder Walid El Karti, who misses the match through injury. FAR Rabat is also expected to be without international midfielder Rabie Harimat and goalkeeper Ayoub El Khayati.

The Moroccan side will nevertheless be boosted by the return of experienced goalkeeper Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti, whose presence between the posts is expected to strengthen the team ahead of the crucial encounter.
