Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati held a series of phone chats on Thursday with a number of regional and international counterparts to discuss the serious military escalation in the region.

The calls included Foreign Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Foreign Minister of the UAE Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi of Oman, and the German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

Minister Abdel-Aati reiterated During the calls Egypt’s condemnation of the recent attacks, particularly the strike that targeted the port of Salalah in Oman, as well as attacks affecting Qatar and the wider Gulf region.

He expressed Egypt’s firm rejection of continued Iranian attacks, stressing the need for an immediate halt to actions that violate international law and threaten regional stability.

He also called for full respect for the principles of good neighbourliness and the sovereignty of Gulf states.

Abdel-Aati also welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, noting that Egypt was among the first sponsors of the resolution.

Under the resolution, the council strongly condemned Iran’s attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, reaffirming its support for their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The council also denounced attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure and demanded they stop immediately.

It further called on Tehran to halt threats and actions that disrupt maritime trade and to end support for proxy groups in the region.

The ministers agreed that diplomacy remains the only viable path to contain the crisis.
