Minister of Social Solidarity, Maya Morsi, has affirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with international partners to advance social protection systems and expand economic empowerment opportunities for the most vulnerable groups.

The minister highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in supporting inclusive development and promoting financial inclusion across Egypt.

Morsi met on Thursday with Chitose Noguchi, UNDP Resident Representative in Egypt, and her accompanying delegation at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

During the meeting, Minister Morsi reviewed the ministry’s efforts in social protection, particularly the “Strategic Financial System for Economic Empowerment” programme, which aims to enhance economic empowerment and facilitate financial inclusion for vulnerable groups.

She explained that the programme expands access to financial services by linking Nasser Social Bank with the Egyptian Postal Authority, allowing the bank’s services to reach citizens in governorates nationwide.

The minister also noted that the Takaful and Karama (Solidairty and Dignity) programme has been enshrined in law through the Social Security Law, which establishes a more comprehensive and resilient social safety net capable of addressing economic and social challenges and supporting long-term stability.

The meeting also addressed the ministry’s initiatives in food assistance, including the presidential initiative “Abwab El-Kheir,” the “Mahrousa Restaurants” project, and the “Ahl El-Kheir” competition, implemented through 286 partners across 657 service points nationwide.

For her part, Ms Noguchi commended the ministry’s efforts and expressed her aspiration to further expand cooperation with UNDP in the coming period.
