Military escalation in the region and its repercussions were at the core of phone talks between Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati and the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan.

Minister Abdel-Aati condemned the targeting of the UAE Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, affirming Egypt’s full solidarity with the UAE in facing any threats against its diplomatic missions or its security, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

He also offered Egypt’s sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the government and people of the UAE over the death of two members of the UAE armed forces following a helicopter crash.

Separately, Minister Abdel-Aati stressed to his Turkish counterpart Egypt’s condemnation of any violations against Türkiye’s sovereignty and airspace.

He also reiterated Cairo’s firm stance rejecting any infringement on the sovereignty, unity or the territorial integrity of states or threats to their security and stability.

The Egyptian top diplomat stressed the importance of de-escalating tensions and avoiding the region from slipping into wider confrontations with unpredictable consequences.

Abdel Aati highlighted the utmost importance of prioritising the diplomatic track as the only viable way to contain the current tensions and preserve regional peace and security.
