Pop icon Britney Spears was taken into custody for driving under the influence and has since been released.
According to outlets such as Reuters, Spears was stopped at a DUI checkpoint in Ventura, California, on the night of the March 4th (local time). She was taken to a hospital for a blood alcohol test, and her car was impounded. Spears was released the next day, on the March 5th, and is expected to appear in court on May 4.
Spears previously faced charges in 2007 for a hit‑and‑run incident that caused property damage.
In a statement shared with U.S. media, a representative for Spears admitted that “there is absolutely no excuse,” adding that she intends to “follow the proper path and obey the law,” expressing hope that this marks the beginning of positive change in her life.
