Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi reviewed Monday Egypt’s strategic reserve of staple commodities ahead of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
During a meeting earlier today to follow up the ministry’s efforts to ensure availability of staples in preparation for the holy month, to start in early April, Madbouli also followed up the ministry’s plan to procure local wheat from farmers during this harvest season.
Moselhi said that his ministry is looking to procure 4 million tonnes of local wheat from farmers this season, highlighting efforts to facilitate farmers’ supply of wheat to state-owned silos and mills nationwide.
Moselhi also briefed the premier on the latest developments on auditing the list of beneficiaries from the national subsidy system.
He stressed that all state bodies are committed to providing government subsidy, including subsidized bread or supply commodities, to eligible consumers only.
