CAIRO – The Ministry of Youth and Sports announced that an agreement was signed between the African Union (AU) and the Egyptian government to host the 14th African Games in Cairo next year.
The deal was signed by Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU Obaida El Dandarawy and AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development Minata Samate Cessouma.
Commenting on the agreement, Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil said Egypt’s selection as the host of the upcoming African Games reflects the continent’s confidence in the Egyptian government’s abilities, bolstered by support from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
He also thanked Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli for his constant support and follow-up efforts to finalize the agreement, commending high-level institutional coordination among relevant state bodies, foremost among which are the ministries of foreign affairs and defense.
Nabil said such integrated national efforts show Egypt’s readiness to host a major continental event that affirms its leading role in Africa.
