Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s deep appreciation for Angola’s leading role during its current presidency of the African Union.

He made the remarks during a phone call on Saturday with Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs Téte António

Abdelatty praised Angola’s contributions to enhancing joint African action, which have been evident through the intensive diplomatic activity and high-level meetings organized during Angola’s presidency of the African Union.

He emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts for the upcoming African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for mid-February, ensuring its success and the adoption of practical outcomes that support the continent’s priorities in areas of peace, security, and development, especially given Egypt’s presidency of the African Union Peace and Security Council in February 2026.

The two sides discussed ways to support and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and coordinate positions on issues of mutual interest.

He commended the growing momentum in Egyptian-Angolan relations, as well as the mutual commitment to enhancing political understanding and consultations to push these relations into broader horizons.

He stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the Joint Committee meeting held in Angola last December to advance bilateral relations in various political, economic, and investment sectors.

He also reiterated Egypt’s interest in cooperation in areas of regional connectivity, transportation, renewable energy, infrastructure, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of holding the next edition of the Egyptian-Angolan Business Forum as soon as possible.

Regarding continental and regional cooperation, Abdelatty stressed the desire to continue close coordination with Angola concerning developments in Africa, as well as efforts to achieve peace, stability, and support sustainable development pathways.

Both sides exchanged views on a number of regional issues, reaffirming the importance of unifying African positions and strengthening African solutions to the challenges facing the continent.

In conclusion, the foreign minister reiterated the deep fraternal relations between Egypt and Angola, as well as the mutual commitment to continue developing bilateral cooperation in various fields and strengthening coordination on African and international issues of common interest, in order to achieve the aspirations of both brotherly peoples and support the common interests of the two countries.
