By Mohamed Attia

The Egyptian civil aviation sector has achieved significant international recognition, demonstrating its continued success and regional excellence.

This achievement was highlighted by the announcement from the Arab Regional Working Group on Passenger Security and Information that Egypt will chair the Communication and Transport Committee.

This appointment is a strong reflection of the global community’s confidence in Egypt’s robust institutional capabilities and deep technical expertise in aviation security and passenger data management.

The selection of Captain Sameh Mohamed Fawzy, Vice-President of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), to chair this committee underscores Egypt’s pivotal leadership role in the region. An Egyptian delegation from the Ministry of Civil Aviation participated in the meeting hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which saw the participation of 19 Arab and African nations.

The Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh el-Hefny stressed that Egypt’s new chairmanship is a crucial part of the state’s efforts to enhance aviation security and refine mechanisms for processing passenger data. He affirmed that the Ministry operates within a comprehensive legislative and technical framework designed to adhere strictly to international standards and ensure the protection of data privacy, in close collaboration with specialised international organisations.

El-Hefny noted that this appointment reflects Egypt’s significant standing within regional frameworks dedicated to border security and travel protection.

He further emphasised the ongoing efforts to boost the readiness of the civil aviation sector and develop the information infrastructure for passenger data, a commitment that actively contributes to maintaining the stability of air traffic across the region.

In its new capacity as chair, Egypt will focus on using the Communication and Transport Committee to support member states. This support will involve aiding in the development of data processing systems, strengthening technical co-operation, and working to unify working methodologies within the region. Furthermore, Egypt will play a key role in contributing to the advancement of cybersecurity capabilities and the development of the overall information infrastructure of Arab and African airports.
