WASHINGTON – Former Democratic presidents Joe Biden and Bill Clinton have praised US President Donald Trump for helping broker a ceasefire in the Gaza war.
“I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line,” Biden said on X.
With support from the United States and global partners, the Middle East was now “on a path to peace”, he said.
Biden also highlighted his own administration’s role in the negotiations, saying it had “worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, get relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war,” which started in October 2023 during his term.
Clinton echoed the sentiment, writing on X that “President Trump and his administration, Qatar, and other regional actors deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached.”
Clinton urged Israel and Palestinian organization Hamas, with US support, to “turn this fragile moment into lasting peace”, adding that he believed it was possible “if they do it together”.
