President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Egypt is keen to cement cooperation with Germany in different fields.

The president made the remarks during a phone call that he received on Friday from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, said Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El Shennawy.

The spokesman added that the two leaders discussed the latest developments in the efforts made by Egypt in coordination with the parties concerned to end the war in the Gaza Strip, where President Sisi reviewed the details of a ceasefire agreement reached on October 8 in Sharm El Sheikh.

President Sisi also posted the German chancellor on Egypt’s vision for the next phase and mechanisms for implementing the ceasefire agreement based on US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

In this regard, the president stressed the importance of upholding the role and status of the Palestinian Authority and creating the necessary conditions for the establishment of a Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy and relevant UN resolutions.

President Sisi invited Merz to attend a celebration hosted by Egypt for marking the signing of the ceasefire agreement in the Palestinian enclave.

On his part, the German chancellor expressed his country’s appreciation of the pivotal role played by Egypt in striking the ceasefire deal, saying Germany hopes this agreement to represent a step towards achieving lasting peace in the region.
