CAIRO – Palestinian Ambassador in Cairo Diab al-Louh said that Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, has reaffirmed its pivotal role in regional security and stability by brokering the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement, ending the Israeli war on Gaza and paving the way for Palestinian reconstruction.
In a statement to MENA, Al-Louh conveyed the appreciation of the Palestinian people and President Mahmoud Abbas for Egypt’s leadership. He affirmed the Palestinian Authority’s readiness to assume full responsibilities in Gaza, as an integral part of the Palestinian political system, in accordance with international law and the two-state solution vision.
He emphasized that Egypt’s role extended beyond halting the conflict to establishing a practical framework for reconstruction. He reiterated the State of Palestine’s commitment to its responsibilities in Gaza, guided by Egypt’s commitment to Palestinian rights.
The ambassador highlighted President Sisi’s call for an international reconstruction conference in Cairo as a natural extension of Egypt’s key role, aiming to mobilize resources and expertise to realize the agreement’s goals and ensure a decent life for Palestinians.
He said that Egypt continues to view an independent Palestinian state, based on the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as essential for lasting peace.
He noted that President Sisi’s consistent stance reflects international legitimacy and promotes regional security, stability, and development.
He welcomed elements of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan and the Sharm el-Sheikh deal, acknowledging the contributions of Qatar and Turkey. However, he stressed that Egypt bears the primary responsibility for the plan’s implementation and successful reconstruction, given its historical ties and shared border with Gaza.
He asserted that the resilient Palestinian people deserve to live in freedom and dignity. He urged the international community to fulfill its obligations in ending the occupation and realizing the widely supported two-state solution.
