CAIRO – Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi on ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and create conditions conducive to the resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

The talks took place late Monday on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia.

According to a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s active coordination with relevant stakeholders to encourage diplomatic solutions and promote dialogue aimed at achieving a sustainable settlement that upholds the interests of all parties and supports regional security and stability. The discussions come as the UN Security Council has begun implementing mechanisms for reimposing international sanctions on Iran.

The minister also addressed bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the IAEA, highlighting Egypt’s ongoing expansion in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy to support national development efforts, particularly through the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant project.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the agency and benefiting from its technical expertise to ensure the application of the highest international standards in nuclear safety and security.
