NEW YORK – The United Nations called on Israel to reverse its recent decision regarding settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank.
The UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson said in statements continuing on this path would seriously undermine the chances of achieving a two-state solution, which is the basis for any just and lasting political settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He added that the latest Israeli move contravenes international law and puts regional and international efforts to resume peace negotiations at risk of failure.
He stressed that settlements are illegal under international law and a major obstacle to achieving comprehensive peace.
