CAIRO – Egypt’s Ambassador in Freetown Rasha Suleiman held a meeting with Minister of Trade and Industry of Sierra Leone Ibrahim Sesay to explore ways to enhance economic and trade relations between Egypt and Sierra Leone.

The discussions align with ongoing efforts to build on the outcomes of President Julius Maada Bio’s visit to Egypt in March in 2025.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the possibility of organising a joint Egypt–Sierra Leone Business Forum in the near future.

The forum would aim to foster direct engagement between companies and industrial institutions from both countries, exchange investment and trade opportunities and open new avenues for economic co-operation and increased bilateral trade.

The talks also touched on strengthening institutional ties between the Egyptian and Sierra Leonean Chambers of Commerce, with a focus on greater coordination to support business leaders and investors, exchange expertise across various sectors, facilitate access to regional markets and promote Egyptian products across the African continent.

The two parties reviewed the possibility of relaunching the Egyptian trade exhibition in Sierra Leone, recognizing its value as a platform for showcasing a wide range of Egyptian products.

The exhibition would also include cultural and artistic performances to reflect the deep-rooted ties between the two peoples.

Suleiman asserted Egypt’s commitment to further deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in various developmental and economic fields, aiming to serve the mutual interests of both nations and promote a growing strategic partnership at both the bilateral and continental levels.

She also stressed the importance of leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and enhancing private sector engagement to unlock new commercial opportunities.
