Scientific co-operation with Japan and benefiting from Japanese expertise in all fields topped the agenda of an official meeting Tuesday.

Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met Japanese Ambassador in Cairo Masaki Noki and Chief Representative of JICA Egypt Office Omura Yoshifumi for talks during which the ministry expressed keenness to strengthen and develop co-operation relations.

The minister said the political leadership attaches great importance to the establishment of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) by offering all facilities for its speedy completion and make it a model to be emulated in higher education and scientific research.

E-JUST symbolises the extension of friendship ties between Egypt and Japan and an ideal for fruitful co-operation between the two governments, Abdel Ghaffar said.

For his part, the Japanese envoy praised President Abdel Fattah el Sisi’s interest in E-JUST, which was evident during his opening of the new phase of the university last September.

Noki said that he was looking forward to further co-operation with Egypt through educational programmes in Japan within the framework of the Egyptian-Japanese partnership for education.

Hany Helal, former minister of higher education and secretary-general of the Egypt-Japan Education Partnership (EJEP), president of E-JUST Ahmed el-Gohary, and Anwar Ismail, Assistant Minister for National Projects attended the meeting.
