The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) organised in co-operation with the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST), the activities of the second edition of the 2025 Egyptian Global Food Safety Symposium on the sidelines of World Food Safety Day 2025 (WFSD), which was titled “Food Safety—Scientific Applications.”It serves as a clear mark to demonstrate Egypt’s commitment to co-operating to find solutions related to food safety, highlighting that food safety is everyone’s responsibility.The symposium is in line with NFSA’s strategic plan for the years 2023-2026, which aims to be a leading regulatory body in the field of food safety in Africa and the Middle East, relying on scientific foundations in developing and implementing regulatory programmes to protect consumer health and creating the environment to improve the performance of the food and agricultural products sector in Egypt.Also, enhancing confidence in Egyptian food products at the local and international levels.Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority, Dr Tareq el-Houby, said that food safety is a main pillar of food security, public health, and sustainable development, pointing out the importance of collective work and effective coordination between all concerned bodies to ensure food safety.He added that the slogan of this year’s celebration, “Food Safety: Science and the Foundations of Decision-Making,” emphasises the importance of relying on scientific evidence when developing food policies and making decisions that affect health and food security.This day represents a serious call to take action, unify efforts, and build effective partnerships that enable us to confront challenges and reach a future free of foodborne diseases. el-Houby saidHe also highlighted that food safety is not only a means of protecting health, but it is the cornerstone of building a safer and more sustainable future for future generations, protecting the health of citizens and supporting the state’s ability to compete in regional and global markets.”NFSA, through its community programmes, enhances community and institutional awareness about the importance of safe and healthy food,” he stressed.Science is the basic pillar on which we rely in making sound decisions to ensure safe food and a sustainable health system in light of the rapid developments the world is witnessing today in the fields of globalisation, technologies, and food innovation, el-Houby confirmed.Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Dr Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar said that food safety is a shared responsibility to prevent diseases that affect human health and agriculture.He added that Egypt’s vision is to increase the area of agricultural land and that NFSA plays a vital role in the public health sector.
