Following its recent recognition by National Geographic as one of the world’s most breathtaking running routes, the Pyramids Half Marathon is set to return in mid-December 2025.
Minister of Youth and Sports Dr Ashraf Sobhi convened a comprehensive meeting with the organising committee from The Tri Factory to finalise logistical and organisational preparations for the highly anticipated event.
Sobhi underscored the immense significance of National Geographic’s commendation, hailing it as a “golden opportunity” to bolster Egypt’s tourism and sports sectors.
He confirmed that this international accolade serves as further proof of Egypt’s growing prominence as a premier global destination for sporting events, attributing this success to the nation’s steadfast security and stability, alongside the increasing trust from international federations and organisations.
The Minister affirmed that the 2025 marathon will be meticulously executed to align with Egypt’s distinguished stature and rich cultural heritage, particularly in light of the global recognition garnered by the event and its iconic route around the Giza Pyramids.
Sobhi detailed the Ministry’s commitment to providing comprehensive support for the marathon.
This includes close coordination with key governmental bodies such as the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, Interior, and Health, as well as the Tourism Promotion Authority.
This collaborative effort aims to ensure the marathon is executed flawlessly, reflecting Egypt’s esteemed cultural image on the global stage.
He further stressed the critical importance of leveraging this globally recognised event to stimulate tourism and sports within Egypt.
This is especially pertinent given the keen interest shown by international platforms in showcasing unique routes that seamlessly blend athleticism, history, and natural beauty.
Minister Sobhi also highlighted the necessity of strengthening the marathon’s organizational and promotional frameworks.
This involves implementing robust digital campaigns and forging strategic partnerships with both local and international sponsors. These initiatives are designed to broaden participation from both domestic and international runners and to elevate the event’s standing to that of major international marathons.
The Pyramids Half Marathon, an annual fixture, is meticulously supervised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports through its General Administration of Tourism and Sports Events.
It stands as a beacon among events that successfully intertwine sports, history, and tourism.
