In a move to boost Egypt’s clean energy efforts, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat visited on Tuesday two French turbine manufacturers in Belfort, France.

The minister focused on overseeing the production of crucial turbines and electrical equipment for the Dabaa nuclear power plant. Esmat specifically reviewed the readiness of the turbine generator for the plant’s first unit, which is slated for delivery by year-end.

This turbine, set to be the largest in Egypt and Africa, is currently undergoing final technical testing in France to ensure it meets all specifications.

He also received a presentation from company officials on the progress of manufacturing, the timeline of equipment delivery, and updates on the control systems for the plant’s operation.

The minister toured several departments within the factories and followed up on production plans for electrical components.

Esmat emphasised Egypt’s commitment to the project schedule and the strong partnership with the Russian side, which is co-leading the plant’s construction.

He highlighted that the Dabaa nuclear project reflects the strategic cooperation between Egypt and Russia and supports Egypt’s Vision 2030 by strengthening energy security and supporting sustainable development.

The minister added that the political leadership closely monitors the progress of the Dabaa plant and views the nuclear sector as key to Egypt’s economic growth and scientific advancement.
