The Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) wrapped up the 60th edition of its training courses offered to African journalists.

Journalists attending this year’s Union of African Journalists (UAJ) training course in Cairo were urged to tell their story and highlight challenges within the profession.

In a statement on Monday, the council said that the training brought together 22 young jounalists from 14 African countries, including Zambia, Ghana, Malawi, Algeria, South Africa, Chad, Mali, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Morocco, Zimbabwe and Mauritania.

The training was organized by SCMR on April 12-May 1 in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry and the Union of African Journalists.

The course was part of the Union for African Journalists’ efforts to strengthen media cooperation and cultural exchange across the African continent. The event addressed several issues related to development-focused media.

This version saw a forceful appeal for a ceasefire in Gaza, setting a bold tone for the gathering of young journalists from across the African continent.

In line with this solidarity, participants in the UAJ training were offered the opportunity to interact with Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Diab al Louh , as the program explored African media’s role in advocating global justice movements.
