Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber met on Tuesday with Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Egypt Elkhan Polukhov.

During the meeting, Governor Saber underscored the longstanding and steadily growing ties between Egypt and Azerbaijan, which have seen notable progress in recent years, particularly under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, who visited Baku in 2023.

That visit, the governor noted, marked the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations, grounded in strategic partnership and co-operation across a range of sectors, including economic, commercial, political, cultural, and scientific domains.

The two officials also explored ways to implement the Friendship and Co-operation Agreement between Cairo and Baku, which was signed in June 2024 on the sidelines of the Egypt-Azerbaijan High Joint Committee meetings held in Cairo.

Governor Saber stressed that the agreement aims to deepen the bonds of friendship, mutual understanding, and collaboration in areas such as culture, arts, science, education, healthcare, tourism, sports, youth development, and environmental protection.

He added that this agreement reflects the ongoing commitment of both sides to strengthening co-operation, leveraging shared expertise, and broadening joint efforts across various fields in support of sustainable development and closer relations.
