President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated at dawn on Thursday the renovation works of the Sayyida Nafisa Mosque, old Cairo.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayeb, Minister of Waqfs (Religious Endowments) Osama Al-Azhari, Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Mohamed El-Dweini, Grand Mufti of the Republic Nazir Ayad, and Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, Major General Ahmed El-Azazi, attended the inauguration ceremony, said the Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed al-Shennawy.
He added that the president inspected the mosque and received a detailed briefing from Major General Ahmed el-Azazi on the renovation work carried out by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.
This work, the spokesman noted, is part of Egypt’s broader plan to restore historic Cairo and preserve Al Albayt (family members of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH) mosques in line with the state’s commitment to safeguarding its religious and cultural heritage.
The president reaffirmed, in this respect, Egypt’s dedication to completing the restoration of significant Islamic sites, highlighting the deep connection Egyptians have with the Prophet’s family. He prayed to Allah the Almighty to grant the Egyptian people security, stability, and prosperity during the holy month of Ramadan and to protect the wider Arab and Islamic nations.
Following the inspection, President Sisi performed the Dawn Prayer at the mosque and concluded his visit by paying respects at the shrine of Sayyida Nafisa.
