This initiative, part of the “100 Million Healthy Lives” campaign, offers free services aimed at improving maternal and newborn health across Egypt. The five-year initiative prioritizes the early detection of mother-to-fetus infections, including HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis B, alongside other potential health risks.

It also delivers comprehensive healthcare and treatment throughout pregnancy and postpartum, ensuring vital support for both mother and child.

Dr. Hossam Abdul Ghaffar, Spokesman for the Ministry of Health, highlighted the initiative’s commitment to providing high-quality care at no cost. Pregnant women undergo a series of clinical examinations to assess their general and pregnancy-related health conditions, including blood pressure measurements, anemia detection, and necessary vaccine administration, such as tetanus immunizations.Dr. Fawzi Fathi, Executive Director of the initiative, emphasized that the program provides continuous care beyond childbirth. According to the Ministry’s statement, teams monitor the health of mothers and newborns for 42 days postpartum, conducting health assessments to identify risk factors and distributing essential micronutrients to support recovery and growth.Dr. Fathi explained that the initiative offers comprehensive screening, including urine analysis for infections and albumin levels. Women requiring further care or advanced tests are seamlessly referred to nearby participating health facilities.
