Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Dr. Sameh Hefni, recently met with a high-level delegation from King’s College Hospital, led by Mr. Pramod Balakrishnan, Healthcare Partner at the hospital, and Dr. Mohannad Khaled, Chairman of the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce (EBCC). Also in attendance were representatives from the British Embassy in Cairo. The meeting, held in the wake of Minister Hefni’s official visit to the United Kingdom, centered on enhancing cooperation in the field of healthcare and medical services.
A key topic of discussion was the potential establishment of an integrated medical complex within the investment zone at Cairo International Airport. This proposed facility, under the auspices of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, aims to bolster Egypt’s position as a hub for medical tourism while improving healthcare services for travelers and the broader aviation community. Cairo International Airport, a vital gateway to Africa and the Middle East, is seen as an ideal location for such a project, given its strategic importance and high passenger traffic.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the project. This study will serve as a foundation for an upcoming extensive discussion with King’s College Hospital representatives, paving the way for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, which is currently in development.
Hefni expressed his enthusiasm for strengthening ties with prominent British healthcare institutions. He emphasized the critical role such partnerships play in elevating the standard of medical services available to passengers and further promoting Egypt as a prime destination for medical tourism.

He also underscored the significance of collaborating with King’s College Hospital on this initiative, citing the institution’s global reputation for excellence in healthcare. As one of the leading medical establishments in the United Kingdom and Europe, King’s College Hospital is renowned for its advanced medical services, world-class specialists, and extensive expertise in managing major healthcare facilities.
With the potential establishment of this cutting-edge medical complex, Egypt is poised to solidify its status as a regional leader in medical tourism, offering high-quality healthcare services to both domestic and international patients.
