Egypt’s Ambassador to Rome Bassam Rady has said that Khaled El-Anany, Egypt’s candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, met with Pope Francis in Rome on Monday.
During the meeting, El-Anany presented a comprehensive overview of his electoral vision for UNESCO, outlining key pillars for enhancing the organization’s role and initiatives through an integrated approach aimed at serving humanity as a whole.
El-Anany is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with senior Italian officials, members of key parliamentary committees, and the Italian Senate, Ambassador Rady added.
He will also engage with specialized cultural and archaeological institutions in Rome to further elaborate on his vision for UNESCO’s future.
Rady emphasised the broad international support for El-Anany’s candidacy, highlighting endorsements from the Arab League, the African Union, and various countries across different continents.
