President recommends expedited transport link-up projects with African countries

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has stressed the necessity of sustaining efforts to accelerate the implementation of integrated logistics axes to serve development through networking production areas and maritime ports currently undergoing upgrades.

This reaffirmation was made during a meeting President Sisi convened on Sunday with Prime Minister Dr Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Transport and Industry Lieutenant General Kamel el-Wazir, and Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Major General Amir Sayyed Ahmed, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy said.

These ports are envisioned as pivotal, world-class facilities with substantial capacity and diverse logistical zones. This step aligns with the development of a modern transportation network, including roads, axes, and railways, to establish the necessary infrastructure for transforming Egypt into a global hub for trade and logistics, delivering significant benefits to the national economy, the spokesman said.

During the meeting, President Sisi reviewed the progress of ongoing projects implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Industry, particularly those related to the establishment, modernisation, and operation of ports across the country.

Recognising the essential role these ports play in national development, the president directed the continuation of efforts to expedite the establishment of integrated logistical development hubs, aiming to connect production areas to developing maritime ports, transforming them into high-capacity, globally competitive facilities equipped with diverse logistical services, el-Shennawy said.

The president was also briefed on the latest developments in connectivity projects with African countries, including land corridors, railways, maritime transport, and river navigation routes. These projects are intended to enhance trade exchanges with African countries, he added.

In the course of the meeting, President Sisi reviewed co-operation projects with several African countries and gave directives for the adoption of all necessary measures to accelerate connectivity schemes with African partners, aligning with the Continental Development Agenda 2063 and relevant African Union programmes, the presidency spokesman said.

Discussions during the meeting dealt with updates on the nationwide high-speed electric train network, designed to function as a principal vein for development through serving both new and existing urban and industrial areas as well as tourist destinations, Shennawy said.

During the meeting, President Sisi also discussed the chances of expanding industrial zones as part of the state’s strategy to advance the Egyptian industrial sector. This strategy prioritises establishing new factories to meet local market requirements, supporting the localisation of industries and boosting the domestic production requirements.

In this context, President Sisi stressed the paramount importance of localising industry and enhancing production standards to deliver high-quality and competitively priced products, the spokesman said.
