Environment, civil aviation ministers discuss co-operation on climate change, ecotourism 1 - Egyptian Gazette

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad affirmed the importance of enhancing collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation to support environmental initiatives and promote ecotourism in Egypt.

During a meeting on Thursday with Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh el Hefny, Fouad emphasized the need for joint efforts to address the impact of climate change and advance reliance on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Fouad showcased promotional films produced by the Ministry of Environment’s on ecotourism and the Red Sea Protected Areas Islands, which will be displayed at airports to encourage tourism in Egypt.

The meeting also addressed the integration of the Civil Aviation Ministry’s role in the climate change agenda, particularly through the implementation of Egypt’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) 2050. This includes identifying priorities for adaptation measures within the aviation sector and airport operations.

Fouad expressed her aspiration to collaborate with the Civil Aviation Ministry on establishing an innovative waste management system at airports, starting with Cairo International Airport or Sharm El Sheikh Airport.

She also shed light on cooperation in preparing an interactive map of the impact of climate change.

For his part, Hefny acknowledged the significant impact of climate change on the aviation sector and emphasized the ministry’s commitment to adhering to international environmental standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

He reiterated the ministry’s dedication to achieving environmental sustainability and contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
