Researcher Al-Chaimaa Abdel-Ilah recently presented her doctoral thesis, titled “Role Played by Egyptian Newspapers in Creating a Mental Image about Political Entities among Youth”.

The study shows how Egyptian online newspapers, particularly Al-Ahram and Al-Youm7, play a significant role in shaping positive perceptions of political entities, with a focus on the Coordination Committee of Political Party Junior Members and Politicians.

The research examines the influence of these online newspapers on shaping the views of youth (men and women), aged 18 to 40, about political entities.

Using a media survey method, the study includes 500 participants and employs content analysis and field questionnaires to gather data.

The findings revealed that online newspapers are the main source of news about the committee, contributing to a positive image among young Egyptians.

Political participation was identified as a key issue that resonates among youth, particularly due to the the committee’s focus on empowering young people and encouraging their involvement in politics.

The study also shows that the coverage of Al-Ahram and Al-Youm7 align with the committee’s goals, reinforcing its message of boosting youth participation in the political life.

The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr Faten El Tanbary, professor of media at the College of Graduate Studies for Childhood in Ain Shams University, Iman Sayed Ali, assistant professor of media and head of the Educational Media Department in the College of Specific Education in Ain Shams University.

The Thesis Defence Committee Members included Prof. Dr Mohamed Moawad, professor of media at the College of Graduate Studies for Childhood in Ain Shams University and Prof. Dr Ezzat Othman, professor of digital media at the College of Arts in Sohag University.

This research provides valuable insights into the role of electronic media in encouraging youth’s political engagement and supporting political entities that promote youth’s involvement in public life.
